Every year, everyone in our team gets to nominate a charity for Platypus to donate £1,000 to. They can also split the donation between two charities.
We do this as part of our commitment to the charity sector, and also as a benefit for the team who work hard for our clients throughout the rest of the year.
Each year, we’re surprised and delighted by the range of causes that the team supports. Here is what everyone chose:
Charlotte – SAFE (Saving Abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines) – Charlotte chose to support a small animal charity. They work in Berkshire and Surrey to support and advise landowners to legally rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned and neglected horses.
Kris – Kris split her donation across two charities. Oaktree is an Australian international development charity. They are youth-run, and are a vital resource for supporting and training campaigners and activists.

End the Virus of Racism aims to tackle structural racism in the UK, especially tackling the rise of racism against people of East & Southeast Asian heritage during the coronavirus pandemic.
Matt – Pregnant then Screwed supports pregnant women and working mothers who have been sacked or demoted simply for having children. They campaign for positive change for all parents and provide legal advice.
Nikki – DEC India appeal and Ecologi. Nikki split her donation between the current coronavirus emergency appeal in India that the DEC are running, helping a country devastated by the pandemic, and Ecologi, who plant trees to offset climate change.
Ruman – Ruman wanted to support Muslim Youth Helpline. MYH provides support and advice for young Muslims experiencing mental health issues, family issues, abuse and much more.
Sarah E – Solace Women’s Aid. For the second year running, I have chosen to support Solace, who work with women and children in London experiencing violence. The pandemic has seen demand for their services soar.
Sarah G – Sarah has chosen to donate to Freshfields Animal Rescue. They care for abandoned, abused and unwanted pets, small farm animals and sick and injured wildlife.
Tori – Tori asked to split her donation across two charities. FightMND Australia funds research to find a cure for Motor Neurone’s Disease, alongside providing support for those with the illness.
Shelter from the Storm is a free homeless shelter in London, providing a bed, dinner and breakfast for homeless people all year round.
Will – Will has chosen to support two foodbanks – Romsey Foodbank and Southwark Foodbank. In a year that has been particularly tough, community foodbanks have seen demand go up for their services, and have helped countless struggling households.
